Creative Video Production
& Cinematography

While creativity is at the heart of everything we do—from corporate interviews to event highlights—some projects require a different approach. This section is dedicated to narrative filmmaking: Music Videos, Short Films, and High-Concept Advertising.

At Ceres Productions, we bring the cinematic eye to your story. We specialize in the cinematography and camera operation that brings a Director’s vision to life on screen.

Our Role: The Camera Department

Creative productions are rarely a one-man show; they are an ensemble effort. For these projects, we operate primarily as the Camera Department.

We provide the camera, lenses, and the operator talent to capture the visual aesthetic. We are accustomed to "slotting in" seamlessly with a wider production crew. While we handle the visuals, we rely on the client or producer to source the other vital elements of the ensemble, such as:

  • Professional Sound Recordists

  • Hair & Make-up Artists (HMU)

  • Actors and Extras

  • Set Design & Props

  • Gaffers (for complex lighting setups beyond standard interviews)

We work closely with these departments to ensure our technical requirements are met, guaranteeing a seamless workflow on the day of the shoot.

The Importance of Pre-Production

In narrative filmmaking, the battle is won or lost before the camera ever rolls. We place a heavy emphasis on due diligence during the pre-production phase.

To ensure success, we require ample time to collaborate with the Director and First Assistant Director (1st AD). This includes:

  • Script Review: Analyzing shooting scripts to understand the visual requirements.

  • Shot Lists: Ensuring the ambition of the shot list matches the reality of the schedule.

  • Tech Recce: Assessing locations for power, light, and logistical constraints.

By ensuring everyone is on the same page before we arrive on set, we maximize the time available for creativity.

Why We Respect the Schedule (A Cautionary Tale)

We are sticklers for realistic scheduling. We insist that ample time is set aside for lighting setups, rehearsals, and safe de-rigging.

Why? Because rushing a creative shoot doesn't just lower the quality of the footage; it risks safety and expensive hardware.

The "Trenches" Lesson: Our rigid adherence to safety and scheduling is born from experience. We once filmed a World War One recreation, complete with trenches and pyrotechnics. The shot list was overly ambitious, and the schedule was too tight. As the pressure mounted to "get the shot" before the light failed, corners were inevitably cut. During a rushed sequence involving planned explosions, a camera was damaged.

It was a stark reminder that in creative filmmaking, "fast" often ends up being expensive.
